Christmas card proof

Christmas card proof

Here is a proof of the Christmas card. For the actual card I will probably go to Kinko’s and copy this image onto some kind of colored card stock. Then Ill likely print a small edition to sell as I have done in the past.

God’s head was sketched from a web photo of an ancient sculpture of Zeus. The whole beard-and-white-robe visual of God seems to come from these old Zeus depictions. I like the idea of a giant physical Zeus-like God floating around in space. I was attempting to model the forms in the face with directional cuts rather than my usual line/shape woodcut approach. I’d like to explore that technique more.
This was my first attempt at using text in a woodcut. Next time Ill print some out and transfer it to the block in the drawing phase. I’d like to persue that soon as well.
