Hi Andrea,
I used a copper plate (edges filed), liquid ground to cover the plate, an etching stylus to draw through the ground. Then the plate gets soaked in a ferric chloride salt bath which eats into the plate wherever I made a line through the the ground. Then I print the plate on paper using a big etching press. Check out this link for a better explanation of this and other printmaking processes: <a href="http://www.moma.org/interactives/projects/2001/whatisaprint/" rel="nofollow">http://www.moma.org/interactives/projects/2001/whatisaprint/</a>

i was just enquiring about what tools you used in creating your Minotaur Etching?
as i am doing an assignment on your art work and need to know information about the artwork itself?

Annie,
I did find that to be true. It took about 3 hours to read/draw/cut/proof/photograph/post for each image if I didn't hesitate. That's a decent chunk of the day 7 days a week, so it sort of forced a decisive spontaneity. And knowing I'd end up with 31 images took away any pressure to make "today's" a home run - just crank them out and the creme will rise to the top.

Congrats on the show at the Print Center in Phila!

These are wonderful! I'm thinking that making fast little prints like this would be really liberating -- take some of the "preciousness" out of the process. Did you find that to be true?

I have used spray lacquer, but now I use Bullseye shellac after cutting. I use the spray version if time is a factor, but prefer to slather it on from the 1 gallon bucket - that way it really soaks in and strengthens the block. I also sand it smooth once the shellac is dry. There should still be some openings in the workshop. You can register online <a href="https://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?llr=uhf4gb44&oeidk=a07e36v3dup99283957" rel="nofollow">here</a>. Hope to see you there!

What spray lacquer do you use to coat your blocks? Do you spray after you have finished carving? Are there any openings in your workshop on 1/29/11?
